5 new signings you need to consider for your RotoFPL this year!
#1 Jorginho – CM – Chelsea
With an average match rating of 7.19 last season, Jorginho’s lofty status as the #1 incoming transfer in this year’s Draft probably comes with little surprise. Cementing himself as a crucial player in Napoli’s 17/18 campaign, where they fell just four points short of title-winning Juventus, he boasted an impressive 90% pass accuracy rate while tallying over 4 defensive contributions per game. He’s the prototypical box-to-box midfielder, and his impressive average of over 70% successful dribbles last season shows that the Italian has a bit of creativity in his locker to go alongside his an impressive defensive work rate. A likely pairing next to worldie N’Golo Kante means Jorginho will have a bit more freedom to get forward, and assuming Chelsea hang on to Eden Hazard, he should be able to improve upon his chances created (1.5 per match) and assists (4 last season). He’s not terribly flashy but he’s not a guy to overlook on Draft Day.
#2 Sokratis Papastathopoulos – CB – Arsenal
The 6’1″ Greek powerhouse is one of Unai Emery’s statement signings since taken the reins from Arsene Wenger this summer. Sokratis is an impressive mixture of a skillful centre half and stalwart defender; in 30 games last season for Borussia Dortmund, Soktratis did not make a single error that led to an opposition shot, let alone a goal, a stat that no doubt will be a settling read for Gooners.
He carries into the Emirates changing room an unbelievable pass success rate of 87%, an impressive 78% dribble success rate, and a decent two goals in BvB’s league campaign last season, all impressive numbers for a central defender.
It’s hard to imagine he won’t be a surefire starter right out the gates, and while he won’t fly off the board in the first couple of rounds, he’s worthy of a DEF1 to build your fantasy defense around.
#3 Jean Michael Seri – CM – Fulham
Having narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League in 2017-18, Fulham have wasted no time in getting business done. They’ve brought in a crop of signings – Andre Schurrle, Alfie Mawson, Aleksander Mitrovic – but none more surprising than Jean Michael Seri, a player previously linked with Arsenal, Tottenham, and Liverpool. That sound you hear at the pub is Cottagers fans yelling “how ridiculous it is that FULHAM HAVE MANAGED TO SIGN HIM!”
The Cottagers could turn out to be the surprise package this year, especially with this Ivorian gem now on their books. Seri gained an overall average match rating of 7.16 after last season’s display notching 8 goals and over 4 defensive contributions per game. He’s fast, he’s feisty, and some have compared him to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante, so Fulham fans are sure to be pleased and so are you if you manage to draft to him before your mates!
Seri is a proven engine, starting all 31 matches for OGC Nice last season, bringing to the Premier League a huge 89% pass accuracy rate. Who knows, the little details might be what gets you to the top of your league this season with our unique scoring system it’s all unpredictable, anything can happen, and that’s why us at Roto advise you not to sleep on Jean Michael Seri!
#4 Riyad Mahrez – Winger – Manchester City
It came as no shock to any football fan when Barcelona and Manchester City rushed in to pick the most resourceful branch off Leicester’s tree this summer. The little magician set our Fantasy teams alight back in 2016, when he took the Premier League by storm after arriving at Leicester City for a mere £400k from France, proving a crucial part to Leicester’s unbelievable title winning season. He has continued to drop jaws of viewers since.
Last season he bagged 12 goals as well as 10 assists in just 36 league appearances as well as an overall average match rating of 7.10. This year, we could see the form of his life as he teams up with Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane, Bernardo Silva and an ever-increasing list of world-class players. It seems it’s going to be hard for anyone to stop City in their tracks, similarly, your fellow league members are going to struggle to find sleep at night should Mahrez continue terrorising their defences this season, too. Need we say any more? DRAFT HIM!
#5 Alisson Becker – GK – Liverpool
What’s the price tag on a goalkeeper your team puts 7 past in the Champions League final? Well, if you’re Liverpool, it’s a cool £67M! In fairness to Alisson, he made 3-4 great saves prior to conceding the first, and if not for the big Brazilian it could’ve been even uglier for Roma.
Last season Alisson was arguably the player of the year in Serie A, amounted an average match rating of 7.13, conceding just 0.8 goals per game over 37 games. He tallied a whopping 17 clean sheets while making 2.9 saves per game, good for an 80% success rate.
So yeah, conceding seven in the biggest match of the season wasn’t a great look, but please be humble enough to ask yourself, if you were defending and all you saw all game was Salah, Mane and Firmino charging at you for 90 mins, would you expect any better? We’re not going to stick around and wait for your answer because we already know it! Now come on, wise up and get him in your queue!
